MPAA approval, sort of, and trailer release date
July 31, 2009So, the MPAA did not approve the newest trailer version for theatrical…but they DID approve it for internet use. Why there is a different standard…I don’t know, ask the MPAA.
So the trailer is now OKed to go up (at least on the internet). What this means for us is that we now have to do what’s called “finishing” the trailer, which is color correcting, sound design, audio mixing, matting, etc, etc. This process will take the rest of the day today, and into Monday, finishing at some point Monday. THEN the trailer goes up on the internet, FINALLY. I think this is OK to disclose, so I will tell you:
We are taking over the front page and debuting it on MySpace.com, right next to where you login.
This is pretty cool, especially considering that something like 100 million people worldwide login to MySpace every day (or week or decade or whatever). We considered many other places to debut it; various TV shows or other internet sites were all possibilities, but we picked MySpace because no one else could really match the raw numbers of people MySpace could put in front of this trailer.
It is either going to be Monday or Tuesday, as soon as I know, I will come back here and post the exact time it will be up. Should know within the hour or so.
[As an aside, we are simultaneously doing revisions to get it approved for theatrical. The changes were pretty easy to make and minor, so I think this next iteration should get us where we need to be.]
EDIT: Looking like a Tuesday night release, with a full Wednesday promotion. Not yet fully locked in, I will post info when I get it.
EDIT 2: No, you won’t have to have a MySpace account to see the trailer, it is a greenband so it’s all audiences and we don’t have to age gate it or any of that shit.
EDIT 3: OK, we look locked in for a 1pm EST/10am PST debut of the trailer on MySpace. I will post again Monday and give you the full and precise details.
Normally, there is a link to a discussion thread here, but there is nothing left to talk about or discuss at this point. It’s time to see something. No need for a commentary thread.
