By the time we got to San Francisco, we were so exhausted and worn out from the 31 city tour, I didn’t think I had anything left in my tank. Then we ended up having one of the better pre-shows and Q&A’s of the tour. I guess you never know.

On to the funny:

-Bill hands the mic to a midget. These jokes never get old:
Tucker: Oh yes! A real midget!
Bill: Let me guess — you have a short story?
Tucker: My favorite tiny little fan.
Midget: I don’t want my face on camera, you can’t use my image.
Tucker: You know, the best part is that you already gave permission. The sign is on the door. Entrance constitutes permission, you don’t have to sign anything. It’s a tiny little loophole.

Schedule for the rest of the tour

September 30, 2009

So we are extending the tour for another two weeks or so. This is for a couple reasons:

1. Some of the best press and fan reaction we are getting is from personal interactions. I know that word of mouth and TV commercials and expansion plans are the ultimate key to how well this movie will perform at the box office, but the cities the tour has been to are outperforming the rest, so we figured we might as well keep making appearances. Our presence makes a difference.

2. We have to get back to LA eventually anyway, might as well get some press and have some fun on the way.

This being said, we here is locked schedule for the next two weeks. We are set up in Louisville tonight and Nashville for tomorrow, but are open to suggestions for where we should party Friday in Columbia Missouri, Saturday in Omaha, and Wednesday in Salt Lake City. (We are set in Denver and Las Vegas, details will be posted soon).

Here is the schedule so far. And these are not premieres per se, they are just appearances at bars. The movie is out at theaters already, just see it there, then bring your ticket stub with you to any place I am, and I’ll either buy you a drink or give you a t-shirt or hit on you if you’re a hot girl or whatever:

Premiere #30: San Diego

I know I am skipping the LA premiere write-up, but we didn’t a pre-show there because of the red carpet, and I want to use that write up as a sort of recap of the tour and early stuff with the movie. So I am posting SD today, SF tomorrow, then LA Thursday or Friday, which will wrap up all the tour write-ups and videos. Now, on to the funny:

-This first story is the most awesome, epic story anyone ever told in any stop. These three Mexican dudes got up, told a great a story that was funny, had a punchline, and not only that, they BROUGHT THE PROP WITH THEM! One of the dudes was even like the hispanic Vanna White, modeling it and waving his hands back and forth. It was truly awesome. (more…)

Sorry these updates took so long to post, I just got caught up in doing all the press and shit for the release. But don’t fret, Charlie, Greg and Bill kept doing the videos and Nils and I kept bringing the funny during the pre-shows. I’ll release Tempe today, LA tomorrow, SD Wednesday, and SF Thursday. Nils: We got Rob and Big up there.
Tucker: That dude is like the white Big.

Guy: So I’m drunk and driving down the interstate with my buddy here. We picked up this dumb bitch…
Tucker: If she’s talking to you, then you shouldn’t talk shit about her. I feel like a lot of girls don’t do that.
Guy: Later on in the night, my buddy’s driving and I’m in the backseat. This bitch pissed me off so bad, I jerked off in the back and…
Tucker: Please don’t tell a story about sexual assault. Please, PLEASE don’t tell a story about how you shot a load in a girl’s face who didn’t want anything to do with you. Just stop. If that’s how the story ends, then just hand the mic back to Bill.
Guy: I jerked off on the back seat, and that’s it How ’bout that? I didn’t jerk off on her, I wiped it on the seat. Either way, that’s my most embarrassing story.
Tucker: That’s not embarrassing, that just means you’re a punk and a bitch.
Nils: And I’m willing to bet that your most embarrassing story involves childhood at some point.

Monday wrap-up of opening weekend

September 28, 2009

As I have explained before, we not only independently made this movie, we independently distributed it. This is an extremely risky strategy, and one that had a very low chance of success. We knew this going in, and we rolled the dice anyway because we believed in the quality of the movie and thought my fan base was big enough and responsive enough to launch the movie.

Well, the test is in the results, and the first week numbers are back, and they are…well, they’re not good or bad, which is the weirdest thing. If they had been awesome, then we had a plan on how to capture the momentum and really push this to huge heights. And if the numbers just sucked, then we had a plan on how to best cut our losses and position the DVD.

But our numbers are neither; they are all over map. In some cities and complexes, we are the #1 movie, in others, we barely got anyone out. We averaged a $3,000 per screen average, which is not really good or bad–it’s mediocre, which is what makes it so perplexing. It’s not a bomb, but it’s not really good enough to justify triggering a huge expansion loan. So we are stuck in something of a middle ground: We have a movie that is doing extremely good in some areas, not good in others. (more…)

Movie releases today

The movie comes out today, and I’ve listed all the theaters below.

There’s not much else to say. You’ve seen all the reactions from 31 tour stops, you’ve read and heard what people have said, you’ve listened to me pimp it, now go see it and judge for yourself. Pretty simple.

Though, I have to admit, the breadth of reaction in the reviews is quite entertaining. The same movie is getting called “The Godfather of raucous, twenty-something comedies,” and “a worthless piece of crap.” That’s pretty fucking awesome.

Also, we’re going to be in Chicago this weekend hanging out with fans, all the details are here.

BTW–If you have already seen the movie, do me a favor and please tell your friends about it. That is the best marketing there is for this movie: Word of mouth.

Chicago weekend plans

We are coming back to Chicago for opening weekend! Chicago is not only one of the best drinking towns in America and where most of the book takes place, but it is our wide test market for the movie, so Nils and I will be in Chicago for the entire weekend to celebrate the opening of the movie and hang out with fans. Movie opens Friday; complete first weekend theater list

Like I explained on Monday, our distribution strategy is a typical indie one: 125 screens the first weekend, 300 or so the second, then wide expansion into about 2000 by the third weekend, which will cover the whole country.

This will mean that for some of you, the movie won’t be getting to your city for two or three more weeks. This sucks, but please understand why we are doing it this way: It’s because this is how we have to do it in order to give the movie the best chance of success given the money we have to distribute it. You can read my explanation of it here, or read what the LA Times or New York Magazine says about it.

Because Nils and I believed so much in this movie, we did a 31 city premiere tour and stood in front of 15,000 of our fans, showed them the movie, answered their questions, took pictures with them, and sometimes even got drunk with them. And the response from those fans has been overwhelmingly positive. The people who have ACTUALLY SEEN the movie love it. You can go to the movie’s Facebook fan page, or my Facebook fan page, or all the YouTube videos, or any other place, and see what real people who went to premieres say about it.

Go see this movie. At the very least, you will laugh a lot and you will definitely see the most epic shit scene in movie history. And if you are like most people so far, you will love the movie, and want to go back and see it again. I have never lied to or deceived my fans, and I am not about to start now:
